Each year, CYDI's dedicated faculty, staff and students come together to plan a commencement ceremony that honors the achievements and bright futures of our outstanding graduates. Commencement is a time to reflect on the contributions of all within our school community who support our students' success. Our top priority is to honor our graduates and celebrate this milestone in their lives. Commencement is a joyous celebration for graduates, families, friends and the entire CYDI community.
The 2024 graduation is both a moment of inflection and cause for reflection for students. It’s an opportunity to reflect on all that we, together, have learned and achieved during your time at CYDI. It’s an opportunity to look ahead to the great potential and promise of each of our graduates as entrepreneurs, leaders and professionals called to lead the way in an uncertain world. Looking forward and looking back, I feel a sense of profound confidence that you are up for this challenge. Indeed, you’ve already seen and persevered through some unanticipated twists and turns in the road. Many of you saw your senior years of high school disrupted by the onset of the global pandemic and missed out on your graduation then, and all of you had to navigate several years of significant academic and social disruption.
Due to the COVID19 pandemic many of our graduates did not have a regular 8th grade graduation. They started high school at home, online, with masking and social distancing and decisions about vaccines. Although necessary at the time, that version of high school was antithetical to community building and the typical high school experience. So, remarkably, this the first time you’ve all been together—in person—for a traditional, formal academic exercise. Despite the challenges, you have thrived. In the classroom and beyond you have taken advantage of all that CYDI has to offer, expanding your understanding of what it means to be CYDI Ready and truly prepared for college and careers in the 21st Century.

Congratulations again, Class of 2024. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Principal and for being part of the CYDI Family. In your career and in your life, there will be challenges along the path to your desired destination. I encourage you to draw upon the resilience and persistence that you have shown while earning this diploma. Know that even when life and circumstances get hard-you can do it. Overcoming tough times is not just about working harder, it’s also a reflection of deeper thinking about principles, priorities and trade-offs. You’ve learned this principles inside and outside of the class and trust that you are CYDI Ready and ready to succeed in the next stage of your life.
